2006年，首届世界休闲博览会在杭州召开，这是体现杭州休闲特色的重要标志。以西湖景区为核心，正在形成辐射长江三角地区的休闲产业。南山路特色休闲街，咖啡吧、酒吧、茶楼、工艺字画、古玩珍品、艺术画廊林立。中国美院、潘天寿纪念馆、吴山书画院均立其中，是中外宾客观光、休闲的好去处。清河坊、信义坊均是市民享受诸多情调的休闲场所。杭州氡温泉度假村是杭州目前最高品位的休闲俱乐部，室内外休闲娱乐丰富多彩。杭州刘庄、汪庄、黄龙等高级宾馆、全国著名的丝绸、茶叶、南宋官窑、王星记扇子、张小泉剪刀、胡庆余堂中药以及中国印学等12个博物馆，都具休闲特色的幽静宝地。生态农业的发展也给休闲提供了条件，杭州已形成一批集生产、观光、休闲与一体的农业休闲观光园区。
　　In 2006, the First World Recreational Expo will be held in Hangzhou, and the Expo will highlight a recreational Hangzhou. Actually, a recreational industry center radiating from the Yangtze River Delta with the West Lake resort as its center is coming into form. In Nanshan Road Leisure Block, there are cafes, pubs, teahouses, galleries, curios and crafts. China National Academy of Fine Arts, Pan Tianshou Memorial and Wushan Academy of Painting and Calligraphy are all tourists' best choices for relaxation. Both Qinghe Street and Xinyi Block are recreational centers catering for different people. Hangzhou Niton Spa Holiday Center is of the highest standard among recreational services in Hangzhou. There are also serene spots like Liu's Garden, Wang's Garden, Dragon Hotel, twelve museums of silk, tea, Song Dynasty porcelain, Wang's fans, Zhang's scissors, Hu's pharmacy and China seal studies. The development of ecological agriculture also brings new opportunities for recreational industry. Up till now, a group of agricultural recreational zones consisting production, sightseeing and recreation have come into being.
