Hangzhou's back street and alleyways have taken on a new look with leveled road, lit street lamps and green flower beds. The white wall and black tiles presents a typical style of folk house in South Yangtze River. Hangzhou has totally improved 1215 alleys during the 3 years' alley street improvement project. Since Dec. 2005 when Hangzhou Urban Management Bureau launched photo shooting competition for the Backstreets Improvement Project, it has received 1167 photographic works from 173 shutterbugs, which concern 580 alleyways in Hangzhou.

The world in the Len is what civilians view as popular project. At the request of the majority citizens, Hangzhou will continue the Alleyway Improvement Project this year. More alleyways will be improved and be waiting for the shutterbugs to shoot at this time next year.
