To introduce and promote the China Hall of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan & Activity of “Week of Hangzhou”, to mobilize for all-round launch of each preparatory work of “Week of Hangzhou”, and to push forward each work of “Week of Hangzhou” to be substantially carried out, the Conference on Promotion of China Hall of Expo 2005 Aichi Japan &Press Conference on “Week of Hangzhou” was held on December 6,2004 at Xinqiao Hotel by China Council for Promotion of International Trade and the People’s Government of Hangzhou.
Sasaki Hide, representative of China for Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan, and Zhao Xiaodi, member of the Organizing Committee of China Hall of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan and vice chief of the Office of China Council for Promotion for Interantional Trade, have respectively introduced the relevant detail information about the Expo and China Hall, and the vice mayor Jin Shengshan has also made important speech on the conference. The Press Conference was hosted by the vice general secretary of the Municipal Government Feng Jun. More than 200 people from each department, commission, office and bureau of the municipal government, press circle, Chinese and Japanese enterprise circle, tourism industry, etc., have participated in the conference.
The vice-mayor Jin Shengshan has expounded the profound significance of Hangzhou to take part in the Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan. Being the first large-scale world exposition to be held in this century, Expo 2005 Aichi Japan will have 125 countries and areas, 8 international organizations and more than 15 million people to participate in, and it will be a broad platform for the whole world to exchange the views on “harmonious co-existence between the human being and the nature”, as well as a forum for the human beings to jointly discuss on substantial problems which we will face in the 21st century and seek for the solutions. This world exposition will be held in our country’s neighbor Japan, thus it has provided favorable chance and convenient conditions for our country to take part in the Expo.
In these years, the investment from foreign countries in Hangzhou has maintained steady and rapid growth, and a large number of well-known international transnational enterprises have sped up their investment in Hangzhou, as a result, the new investment and capital-added projects have increased in large quantity, especially the Japanese enterprises have also focus their eyesight in Hangzhou to launch their overseas investment, and the proportion of the Japanese capital in Hangzhou is in increasing raise. All of the situations above have a positive importance in the promotion of the scale and quality of our city’s investment invitation.
In other hand, the opening of the direct flight from Hangzhou to Tokyo and Osaka of Japan has greatly shortened the distance from Hangzhou and Japan, which has not only enhanced the enterprises’ efficiency but also increased the attraction and influence of Hangzhou to Japanese enterprises. The People’s Government of Hangzhou has paid great attention to this Expo held in Japan, and it hopes to further enhance Hangzhou’s reputation in Japan through attending this world exposition, and attract more Japanese friends to invest and tour in Hangzhou, as well as to promote the economic and trade relations between Hangzhou and Japan.
On the conference, Zhu Yongping, vice chief of the Office of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan Work Leading Group of Hangzhou and president of Hangzhou Council for Promotion of International Trade, has introduced the preparatory progression of the “Week of Hangzhou.” He said, as the only city representing Zhejiang province to participate in this Expo, Hangzhou has gained high attentions from the China Council for Promotion of International Trade, the Municipal Government, the Municipal Committee of CPC and the Municipal Government. The Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan Work Leading Group of Hangzhou, with the acting mayor Sun Zhonghuan as the group leader and the vice majors Jin Shengshan and Xiang Qin as the deputy leader, has been specially formed in June of 2004.
The organizations participating in this work include the Propaganda Department of the Municipal Committee of CPC, the Municipal Bureau of Culture, the Municipal Commission of Tourism, the Municipal Bureau of Broadcast and TV, the Municipal Bureau of Science & Technology, the Municipal Bureau of Foreign Economy and Trade, the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the Municipal Council for Promotion of International Trade, etc. All of the participant departments have closely collaborated with each other, and the each preparatory work is under orderly going. Meanwhile, this activity has been gaining more and more attention and support from each social circle.
On the basis of extensively collecting public opinions, the Office of Expo 2005 Aichi Japan Work Leading Group has instituted the Scheme on Participation of Hangzhou in Activity of China Hall of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan. This Scheme, which has enjoyed high evaluation from China Council for Promotion of International Trade and the Organizing Committee of China Hall, is considered to have fully embodied the characteristic of Hangzhou as “harmony between the culture and nature, and between the city and environment” by closely surrounding the theme of the China Hall of Expo as “Nature, City, Harmony—Art of Life”, and it has also been popularized throughout the country as an example.
The activities of “Week of Hangzhou” include the Hall activity, the performance “Paradise on Earth”, the investment invitation and tourism promotion, etc. And the leaders of Hangzhou Municipal Government will lead the team to join in the delegation of Chinese government and attend the activity “China Hall’s Day” presided by the state leaders of China on May 19, 2005 at the Expo main site. And they will also deliver speech on theme at the “Forum on City Development in 21st Century” sponsored by the government of our country to popularize and recommend Hangzhou through introducing its vivid practices of advancing the “Five Strategies”, enforcing the “Five Measures”, fulfilling the scientific view of development,promoting harmonious business incubation, and constructing harmonious society with humane spirit as “exquisite and
harmonious, generous and open”.
On the Press Conference, the series publicity activities related to the “Week of Hangzhou”, including the China Hall Photography Competition of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan (Hangzhou Area), the Selection Competition for “Image Ambassador of China (Hangzhou)” of Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan, and Hangzhou Ecological Habitation Environment Exhibition, are announced to be launched soon.
